Ongoing research

Poorly regulated type 2 diabetes in socioeconomically weak areas
The aim of this project is to investigate the extent of patients with poorly regulated type 2-diabetes (T2DM) in general practice and to identify barriers in the continuity of the care of these patients. By using patient data from GPs combined with data from nationwide registers, it is investigated if factors such as the use of health services, the education level of the patient, and other chronic diseases are correlated to the poor regulation of T2DM. By using interviews with T2DM-patients from socioeconomically weak areas, who furthermore have complicated health issues, and by including the perspectives of other people involved in the continuity of their care, we examine their experience and vision of the treatment course.

The results can be used to improve the treatment and care for the type-2 diabetics who may otherwise be complicated to treat, as their illness may have progressed, and as they may have other chronic diseases as well as psychosocial problems.
